When a space is denied its designated utility it becomes a site of possibilities. The iconic California Hotel, in a well-established Melbourne suburb, lay bare for two years. With every visit I could sense the frenzied energy spent by unknown ‘visitors’ in the uncanny stillness of the abandoned grounds. It had become a site of entropy. Each visit raised new questions.
