The gothic gryphon, integral to the iconic NYC Sherry-Netherlands building, became my whimsical muse. According to legend these mythical creatures, with the wings of an eagle and the head and claws of a lion, guarded the treasures and riches of ancient peoples high in their eyries. My photographs from visits to NYC over a ten year span, pre and post 9/11, address the challenges of big-city living. Feelings of vulnerability, dislocation and claustrophobia mingle with the seductiveness that both photography and New York City engender.
